The kennel had been relegated to the basement.
Sammy no longer needed it as a safe place, and he no longer even went in there. He had the choice of kennel with the door open, or his little plush bed from which he would do his nightly visit up to our bed.
If we were out of the house for an extended time and had to put him in there, it soon became clear he had changed his mind about it being a happy place.
Now he acted like every other dog having to stay in a kennel. He hated it! Every pet owner will swear they can tell the looks of disgust or resentment their beloved animal gives them when they are not pleased. Sammy was a champ at this.
What a change! Instead of happily settling down in the cage, he would give us his best disgusted look.
It seems he now loved being free, more than retreating to the safety of a cage. This was real progress.
