Sammy Story 19: Getting up

November 9, 2020 | News | No Comments

So, not surprisingly, Sammy knows how things ought to go when it is time to get up in the morning. He will stay in bed, watching The Ogre get up and move to the bathroom or get dressed. He will even let him pet him.
But if Mom gets up, it’s hop down and follow me into the bathroom. Not staying out there where The Ogre might get ahold of me!

If I go back to bed for a few more zzzs, Sammy comes right back with me.
He also loves getting covered up. He doesn’t move or squirm, or try to wiggle out. He just stays there quite happily.

After The Ogre is gone, and I’m ready to get up, it is play time with Mom. I “pounce” with my hand toward him, and he goes nuts! At first, he did not know how to play-fight like a dog. His instinct was to open his mouth as if to bite, but I could tell he was afraid he might actually bite me, so he just had his mouth open over my hand, not closing down with it with any pressure. From that, he graduated to dancing and pouncing on the bed while I bend and play with him.

Sammy is the most relaxed and least on-guard in the morning. It is his time to stretch out, and get his belly rubbed.
But woe if The Ogre makes a noise downstairs, or worse, comes into the room. Playful Sammy becomes quiet, watchful skittish Sammy.

But we’re getting there.
